I love theses sails standing proud over marina Mirage on the Gold Coast. Sure, they were erected in the midst of the decadent 80’s and the brain child of Christopher Skase, the multi millionaire who ducked out of the country with his money before going bankrupt and died never setting foot in Australia again to face his demons. Yet these sails represent so much more. They sporned a multi billion dollar industry of shade sails and, as a sailmaker certainly had my attention. Still, nothing I ever did could project such a vision of regatta sailing on a roof and I’ve never seen them bettered. All these years later and I still marvel at the sight of them.
So on this last morning visiting I sat and appreciated their reflections in the calm of the morning, marvelling and appreciating what is quintessentially the representation for me of the Gold Coast
