Here in the Sunshine Coast we are lucky enough to have plenty of points and headlands for swell to wrap around. Our only problem is that all the large Islands immediately to the north and south means swell is considerably diminished by the time it arrives. That makes it a perfect spot for Long Boarding, reflected in the festival of surf happening now at Noosa. This however, gets a jolt every now and then like this weekend where a cyclone out near New Zealand is pushing an unusually heavy wave onto the coast. This has not only been a boon for the Festival in Noosa but also sent surfers up and down the coast into a frenzy. It also made an exciting morning perched on the rocks at Coolum.
